Collotype printing is a 19th century printing process that is considered the finest technique for the reproduction of fine art. Great color saturation is a striking feature of collotypes; however, because of the relatively long time it takes to produce a collotype print and the expense of the process, the craft has slipped into obscurity.
The collotype prints on these notecards were produced 25-75 years ago. They were made by Max Jaffe Press in Vienna and Arthur Jaffe Press in New York. The quantities are limited, some having as few as 50 images. The cards' 5x7 size allows them to be easily recycled into a piece of collectible artwork by simply slipping them into any 5x7 frame.
